The Many Changes of Holidays in These ‘Woke’ Times
Merry ‘Day Off’
The Randolph (NJ) School District announced that all holidays would be referred to as simply a “Day Off” instead of the traditional names of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The announcement set off a backlash, including a petition calling for the resignation of board members.Maybe someone needs to suggest that they do not get paid for generic days off, rather it must be a declared holiday to get paid?
NEW FEDERAL HOLIDAY
The House and Senate approved legislation to mark June 19 as the eleventh federal holiday. Known as Juneteenth, the holiday commemorates the announcement by Major General Gordon Granger in Galveston, TX, on June 19, 1865, that “all slaves are free” under the Emancipation Proclamation.
The first celebration of Juneteenth occurred in 1866. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and with overwhelming support in the House.
