Austin ISD Teaching Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity and Family Constructs As Early As Pre-K

Austin ISD uses the Human Rights Campaign Welcoming Schools program to teach Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity (SOGI) and Family Constructs starting as early as Pre-K. Disguised as an anti-bullying curriculum and implemented through the Social Emotional Learning department, Austin ISD instructed teachers in 2015 training to write definitions for the terms gay, lesbian, and straight that are “age appropriate for the grade level” taught.

Parents were alerted to this program when the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention posted this article in January of this year. Since then, parents have attended Austin ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meetings and reviewed the history of Austin ISD’s relationship with Planned Parenthood and Cecile Richards’ Texas Freedom Network.

A meeting for concerned parents is planned for this Saturday, August 12th at 2pm at Pleasant Hill Library in Austin and publicized here. In response, other parents in the district are planning to disrupt the meeting and have mirrored the site.
