SAFA testifies before the SAISD Board a second time to protect girls in schools
SAFA testified before the SAISD Board of Trustees to protect girls in schools a second time on September 18, 2017. The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) has rushed to enact a dangerous new policy that allows boys access to girls’ showers, lockers, and bathrooms — and vice-versa. The new policy adds “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “gender expression” (these special protections do not exist in state law) to the current non-discrimination policy. The policy appears to apply to faculty, staff, and students, and it applies to instances of “accommodation” and decisions about use of bathroom, showers, and locker rooms.
SAFA and several other concerned citizens spoke at the meeting to voice their opposition to this change in policy.
