“Save Chick-Fil-A” Bill Moving in Texas House
SB 1978, the Senate version of ‘Save Chick-fil-A’ religious freedom bill, passed the Texas Senate this week and is moving in the Texas House. The bill passed out of the House State Affairs Committee early this morning and must now pass the House Calendars Committee and be set on the Major State Calendar, and then pass the full Texas House.
There is still time to get SB 1978 across the finish line before the session ends, but there cannot be any delay. LGBT advocates and opponents of religious freedom are mobilizing to try to kill this bill in the Texas House. Next Tuesday, May 21 is the deadline for Senate bills to pass the Texas House. Please consider calling the House Calendars Committee and ask them to set SB 1978 on the Major State Calendar.

“#EqualityAct” Passes U.S. House
This morning, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 5, Nancy Pelosi’s “Equality” Act. #HR5 is a direct attack on deeply held religious beliefs about sexuality, marriage, parenting, education and your ability to live out your faith. It would enshrine into law the belief that gender is defined by one’s “choice” and elevate it to the same protected status as race or ethnicity. #Congressman #WillHurd from Texas was one of 8 Republicans to support Pelosi’s radical legislation. It will now be up to the Republican controlled U.S. Senate to defeat HR 5.
Atheists Lose in San Jacinto County
Last week, the San Jacinto Commissioners Court voted 5-0 today to keep cross symbols on their courthouse which had been challenged by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation. This unanimous vote shows that San Jacinto refuses to be swayed by pressure from out of state groups and threats of frivolous lawsuits.
ProLife v ProAbortion #TxLege news:
In addition, the Texas House is expected to vote today on #SB22, by Sen. Donna Campbell. SB 22 would ban local governments and state agencies from sending #taxpayer money to abortion businesses, like Planned Parenthood, or their affiliates. Last year, Texas Values helped expose how the City of #Austin was subsidizing a local Planned Parenthood by renting a taxpayer-owned property to the abortion giant for only $1/year. Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups have threatened to take this bill down. Please continue to contact your state legislators to support important prolife bills like SB 22.
