Legal Fight for Religious Freedom
The San Antonio Family Association is planning to sue the City of San Antonio over its Non Discrimination Ordinance, which purports to outlaw discrimination on account of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” but fails to provide any religious exemptions for businesses that oppose homosexual and transsexual behavior. This ordinance violates the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act which prohibits the government from substantially burdening the free exercise of religion. Similar laws are in effect in Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano, and El Paso, and our attorneys are preparing to challenge these laws as well.
We are looking for Christian business owners and business owners of any other faith tradition to join us in these lawsuits, especially businesses that offer wedding-related services such as flowers, cakes or photography and would face lawsuits and criminal penalties for declining to participate in a homosexual commitment or civil “wedding” ceremonies. We are also looking for businesses that have publicly accessible restrooms and require patrons to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
Additionally, we are looking for any Christian doctors and other medical professionals from any faith tradition, who do not want to prescribe hormone therapy, perform sex-change operations, prescribe PrEP (Truvada), or provide referrals for any of these types of things.
We are looking for religious non-profits, such as schools and adoption agencies, whose religious freedom is threatened by laws that require involvement in homosexual adoption or that forbid religious schools to hire teachers and employees whose lifestyles are incompatible with Judeo-Christian teaching.
Finally, we are looking for individual citizens who want to challenge these illegal ordinances as taxpayers.
We are especially looking for business owners, doctors, religious non-profits, or individual taxpayers that are based in San Antonio, Austin, or Fort Worth. But we are interested in hearing from anyone in Texas whose religious freedom is threatened by a local “non-discrimination” ordinance of this sort.
