New Paper Says Puberty Blockers Aren’t the Answer to Gender Confusion
A new article by medical experts, “Growing Pains: Problems with Puberty Suppression in Treating Gender Dysphoria,”says that transitioning might not be the solution to gender confusion.
This is an unpopular opinion. Many therapists and physicians argue that children who experience gender dysphoriaas should begin taking puberty-blocking drugs when they are as young as nine.
This new article argues that there is little scientific evidence to support such a radical procedure.
Even though studies show that 80 to 95 percent of children with gender dysphoria will come to identify with and embrace their bodily sex, pediatric gender clinics and therapeutic interventions on children are on the rise.
Their supporters apparently ignore the fact that people who have had transition surgery are 19 times more likely than average to die by suicide.
If the goal is to care for children with gender dysphoria, the suicide rate alone should be enough to stop therapists and physicians from encouraging children to transition.
Unfortunately, politics are keeping many health care providers from acting in the children’s best interest. As the author of the article says, “Biology isn’t bigotry, and we need a sober and honest assessment of the human costs of getting human nature wrong. This is especially true with children.”
