Press Conference on the City of San Antonio Targeting Lower-income Teens with Abortifacients!

PRESS CONFERENCE AT SA CITY HALL, 100 MILITARY PLAZA 5:00 PM, 78205,

TO PROTECT LIFE AND THE HEALTH OF TEEN GIRLS MARKING THE 2ND ANNIVERSARY OF

COSA PASSING ADOLESCENT HEALTH SERVICES TARGETING POOR TEEN GIRLS

WITH ABORTIFACIENT BIRTH CONTROL SPONSORED

BY THE SAN ANTONIO FAMILY ASSOCIATION

TEEN GIRLS WERE TARGETED BY THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO TWO YEARS AGO when a measure funding the abortifacients, Depo-Provera and Nexplanon was passed by the San Antonio City Council. Far from being benign birth control measures, Depo-Provera, “The Shot”, and Nexplanon, “The Implant”, function to cause abortions should those using the drugs become pregnant. Further the drugs have devastating health side effects including a dramatic increase in breast cancer, and a devastating impact on bone density. One City Councilman who seconded the terrible proposal ignored the seriousness of the documented side effects, jokingly and mockingly compared these harmful side effects to the nominal side effects of aspirin. Councilman MIKE GALLAGHER was the only one to take the medical information seriously and has consistently opposed these measures.

Sadly the Mayor and City Council continue to ignore the medical information on these drugs and are willing to sacrifice the health of lower income teen girls and the lives of their children in order to achieve their goals of lower birth rates for SA2020. We stand with these young women who are being targeted and promote their protection by the San Antonio City Council. These teen girls would be better served by teaching them self-control and empowered with chastity awareness and education. It is imprudent for the City to make elaborate plans to prepare for another million people to move into San Antonio and not properly prepare the City’s youth in virtue in everything but sexuality. Addressing these health concerns at today’s press conference will be Dr. William Jennings, Gerard Migeon and Mayra Olivera.

About Doctor William Jennings

Doctor Jennings is from Indianapolis, Indiana. He studied at Indiana University. Dr. Jennings is married and lives in San Antonio, Texas. He is a member of St. Gianna Physicians Guild and a parishioner at St. Luke’s Catholic Parish Church. Dr. Jennings has two children and is a proud new grandfather.

About Gerard Migeon

Gerard and Anna Migeon are the founders of Natural Womanhood a San Antonio based non-profit. The mission of Natural Womanhood is to improve women’s health literacy through the promotion of fertility awareness based methods (FABM), to help women make truly free and informed choices about the management of their reproductive health. Most American women have no idea that any natural, effective alternative to contraceptives exists. While many suffer from side effects with contraceptives, many do not realize the extent of the risks they take with chemical contraceptive use. Natural Womanhood’s vision is that all women and young girls learn how the female reproductive system works and be trained as experts in their own bodies and in reading the biomarkers of their own cycles, and that couples would be empowered to use an evidence-based FABM for family planning.

About Mayra Olivera

Mayra Olivera is a San Antonio resident. Married and mother of 5 children, she experienced the serious side-effects of Depo-Provera which affected her health and her marriage. The drug caused her to gain weight, and often to be angry and depressed. She and her husband started practicing a fertility awareness method and it has allowed her to effectively plan their family while living a “green” and healthy lifestyle.
