Press Release: Sex Ed Sit Out

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 23, 2018

FED UP PARENTS TURN TO GRASSROOTS SEX ED SIT OUT

A grassroots movement of frustrated public school parents who want to end the sexualization of their children during class time has turned their frustration to action with a “Sex Ed Sit Out” protest on April 23rd.

The protest, launched by a few moms on social media who were troubled by the graphic nature of current sex education resources in schools, has grown into a global movement with protests being held in multiple U.S. cities and also Australia and Canada.

Parents are demanding to know why their children are being taught how to have anal and oral sex, masturbate one another, and question one’s gender. Caryl Ayala, a former public school teacher and organizer of the Austin, Texas, protest, said, “We are uniting with parents across the globe to demand that our rights as parents be respected regarding the teaching of sexuality and sexual orientation. Hands off our kids!”

Here in San Antonio, the NEISD uses Draw the Line, Respect the Line for middle school students, and Big Decisions for high school students. These curriculum are presented as “evidenced-based” and values-neutral, but they actually undercut parental authority and have no impact on the sexual behavior or risks taken by girls. The evidence reveals several areas of concern. Most troubling is a study out of California demonstrated that Draw the Line, Respect the Line had zero impact on reducing the sexually risky behaviors of middle school girls. Other areas of concern are the curriculum had no impact on condom usage and a high non-participation rate in the program due to parental objections.

Middle and high school students are not mature enough or ready for sex. They aren’t prepared or ready for the unintended consequences of sex. Beyond the obvious possibility of a pre-teen or teen pregnancy, there are many consequences including emotional harm, physical risk for STDs (many which are lifelong and incurable), and behavioral risk such as a devaluing and objectification of the opposite sex and a normalizing of promiscuity resulting in inhibiting their future ability to form committed sexual relationships. The NEISD are ignoring all of the harms by choosing a curriculum which puts the responsibility on the child to determine whether or not sex is right for them because in the DTL/RTL curriculum, the child’s decision is paramount and mutual consent is all that is needed for sex with another to be permissible.

The NEISD’s argument and justification will be that some children are going to have sex, so we need to teach them how to have less risky and safer sex. Under this premise the NEISD ought to teach children how to drink and use drugs because some of the children are going to drink and use drugs. Perhaps the NEISD should add a section on substance abuse to their health curriculum detailing ways to “safely” use a beer bong or on the necessity of clean needles when shooting up heroin? Would any reasonable person suggest a curriculum in health teaching children that drug use was their choice and if they choose to use drugs they need to use them safely? Yet, that is exactly the same reasoning that believes it is possible to educate children to have sex safely. Condoms do not make sex safe for children. Condoms MAY prevent pregnancy. Condoms MAY protect against an STD. But condoms do not protect against the long-term harm of early sexual involvement or the immediate emotional scars or the creation of a culture bent toward promiscuity and incapable of committed sexual relationships. Further, condom failure rates demonstrate that they don’t always prevent pregnancy or protect against STDs. This is one reason that pre-teens and teens are one of the largest customer bases for Planned Parenthood. The reason why Planned Parenthood and their sister organization Healthy Futures welcome curriculum such as DTL/RTL and influenced the SHAC for the NEISD to promote the curriculum is the guarantee of future customers in need of their services.

The students of San Antonio deserve a better education. They deserve to know they aren’t ready to choose sex. Children need to be taught to value their bodies and their sexuality. Lessons in morals, virtues and character ought to be taught to them. The negative consequences of child sexuality ought to be taught.

Why do schools in San Antonio ignore the evidence and teach a curriculum which fails young women, does not accomplish the stated goal of greater condom usage, violates the authority of parents, and contradicts Biblical principles?

Cities such as Rocklin, CA and Fairfax County, VA have recently been the focus of news headlines because of controversial, gender-bending and graphic sex education and anti-bullying programs which parents say they were not informed would be taught to their children, sometimes as young as five-years-old. “Why are our tax dollars going to pay for curriculums and resources that teach dangerous and promiscuous behaviors which most parents find morally abhorrent and the CDC has stated are a health risk?” questioned Elizabeth Johnston, viral activist vlogger and concerned mother. “Furthermore, why aren’t administrators being transparent with parents about the content of sexuality resources? It’s as if they have something to hide. That should frighten parents everywhere.”

Education Chairwoman of the Indiana Liberty Coalition and one of the protest organizers, Rhonda Miller, stated, “Follow the money. Comprehensive sex ed is being rolled out across America, often sponsored by special interest LGBT groups like Human Rights Campaign, and disguised as anti-bullying programs. If it’s not okay for special interest groups like the NRA to be buying classroom time to push their agenda, then how is it okay for HRC monies to be buying schools off to teach gender-bending ideology and anal sex tutorials?”

On April 23rd, parents around the nation will be pulling their children out of school for the day in protest of dangerous and graphic sex education and uniting at various locations to hold press events and field media questions. Parents pulling their kids out from school will be widespread, and major American cities will be organizing press conferences and protest events, as well as cities in Canada and Australia.

San Antonio Family Association will be holding the San Antonio press conference and protest on April 23 at 11:00 A.M. outside the Richard A. Middleton Education Center (RAMEC) located at 8961 Tesoro Drive, 78217.
