RAUL REYES, JR has a Passion for Texas and the Citizens of CD23
Opinion Piece by Conservatives in Action
When was the last time Texas had a grassroots candidate for public office be totally engrossed in his run for that office? Such a man is retired Air Force Lt Col Raul Reyes, Jr campaigning to be the Republican nominee for Congressional District 23. He understands the value of hard work and has the ability to put others first. He is a native of Del Rio, Texas where he graduated from Del Rio High School and went on to graduate from Angelo State University where he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the AF. Most of his family still reside in Del Rio.
What is his attraction? As a lifelong resident of CD23, he understands the community he grew up in therefore he has a passion for the people of the district. He told me, “I am passionate about Texas families. I am passionate about their security and about their prosperity in this great state of ours.” He went on to explain, “Texas families are not safe along this border district. We have porous borders with illegal migrants running rampant. Drug cartels control the border pushing drugs, sex and human trafficking to its highest levels seen to date.” According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, the number of human trafficking victims continue to rise in Texas. “At the Federal level we must help Customs and Border Patrol by securing the border by building the wall and providing resources in order that they can do their jobs.” Reyes said.
He also stressed the importance of the prosperity of Texas families in the district. “We need manufacturing and industry to help bring jobs to our district. We need more Toyota, Black and Decker and Apple jobs to come to district 23. Some of the most impoverished places in the nation are right here in this district. Children in our district grow up with fathers and mothers gone for a week or two at a time because they go north seeking higher paying jobs in the oil fields and or construction. ”
Reyes also believes that, “We must also assist County Sheriffs along our border district with the resources needed to protect our citizens. Inside Texas, County Sheriffs along with city municipalities are our first state line of defense. We must work together for the safety and security of the families that reside in our district.” He is a solid supporter of the 2nd Amendment, the Right to bear Arms. He says, “Red Flag laws are not the answer for law abiding citizens.”
As a Christian, Reyes believes in the sanctity of life and as a family man values the closeness of the family structure. He says, “I am passionate about keeping families together.” He also wants to ensure future jobs for the graduates allowing them an opportunity to stay in their home district therefore ending the vicious cycle of families torn apart by lack of economic opportunity. And as Reyes says, “allowing them to stay in our district.”
He knows that he is the right man for CD23 because of his experience in the AF giving him first-hand knowledge of the cartels. He was directly responsible for supporting 355+ Counter-Drug missions; interdicted 78 tons of illicit drugs bound for the US, a $1.5 Billion street value. He was able to do this when he travelled to Colombia in South America and Central America’s Triangle consisting of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. He was the point man for the interceptor training plan of the Sovereign Skies Program, reducing illicit trafficking through the Dominican Republic by 95%. The Sovereign Skies Program is an initiative between the US, Colombian and Dominican Republic air forces that share procedures as to tracking and interception of illegal drugs from South America traveling to the U.S.
Reyes has the tenacity, the intelligence, the integrity, and the knowledge and leadership skills to be the next congressman for CD23. He loves America, follows the Constitution, and will fight for our Constitutional rights, Freedom of Expression, Religious Liberty and the Right to Bear Arms.
It is important to note that Reyes is running a grassroots campaign and is obtaining endorsements from within the district. The Sheriff of Medina County, Randy Brown, knows the value of a lifelong resident to represent the people and has endorsed Reyes’ campaign. So has Sheriff Brad Coe from Kinney County. Coe is a former Border Patrol Agent and knows first-hand the effort and sacrifices our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day.
Reyes is a humble man with a servant’s heart. But don’t let that fool you. He is a warrior who supports President Trump’s efforts in securing the border and immigration reform. A big plus for Reyes is the fact that he is fluent in Spanish and can communicate his policies and plans for CD23 to all voters, as the district is 70% Hispanic.
Reyes waited to campaign until after his employment with the AF ended because of the Hatch Act. His reputation as a man of integrity is well noted by his peers. He chose not to engage in any political activity especially fund raising that would be deemed as unfitting an officer.
His Facebook page lists his ‘Meet and Greet’ events where you can ask him questions pertinent to Texas congressional district 23. He cannot do it alone, he needs your help, please visit his website to learn more about the issues and to contribute to his campaign.
