Texas Adoption Law Seen as Victory for Religious Freedom

Christian adoption agencies in Texas are now safe to operate according to their religious beliefs.

The Freedom to Serve Children Act says that faith-based agencies that receive state funding will be allowed to choose adoptive parents on the basis of their “sincerely-held religious beliefs,” including refusing to place children with unmarried or gay couples.

Because they feared backlash and lawsuits from LGBT groups, many adoption agencies in Texas had stopped taking on children in state custody. This new law will enable them to start placing these children for adoption again.
