Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in Ukraine, which he claimed would demilitarize but not occupy it.

Explosions were heard across parts of Ukraine. In a televised address, Putin issued a warning to the United States and NATO: “To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside: if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.

All relevant decisions have been taken. I hope you hear me.” President Biden stated: “The world will hold Russia accountable.”
