Melissa DeRosa privately apologized to New York Democratic lawmakers for withholding the coronavirus death toll from nursing homes. DeRosa, secretary to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, told them “we froze” out of fear that if the true numbers came out they would “be used against us” by federal prosecutors. But the apology didn’t cut it. “It’s not enough how contrite they are with us,” said Assemblyman Ron Kim, a Democrat from Queens.“ They need to show that to the public and the families — and they haven’t done that.”
