President Biden suggested that Pope Francis called getting vaccinated for COVID-19 a “moral obligation.” When asked for the source of this claim, the White House pointed to a January television interview where Pope Francis said: “I believe that, ethically, everyone has to get the vaccine.” But the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith also made clear in December that “#Vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation and that, therefore, it must be voluntary.”
