TALIBAN IN CONTROL
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled Afghanistan as Taliban forces entered the capital city of Kabul. The Taliban are expected to seize control of the Presidential Palace soon. The rapid takeover of the country by the Taliban caught President Biden by surprise.
On July 8, Biden stated that “the likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely.” Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-TX, said, “Withdrawal was never going to be easy but it didn’t need to come to this.”
