U.S. fertility is at an all time low

The United States fertility rate has fallen to an all-time low according to recent data from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).

It was just 62.0 births per 1,000 women of reproductive age in 2016 and, according to NCHS preliminary estimates, decreased to 61.5 in the first quarter of 2017.

The total fertility rate in 2015 was 1.84, below replacement rate.

Europe & Central Asia: 2.84 -> 1.79

North America: 3.67 -> 1.82

World: 5.00 -> 2.45
